Mumbai, July 30, 2026: The makers of Ramayana: Part One unveiled the film’s long-awaited official trailer on Wednesday, offering audiences their first extended look at what is being billed as one of the most ambitious cinematic adaptations of India’s ancient epic.
The trailer was released in five Indian languages—Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam—ahead of the film’s worldwide theatrical release during Diwali 2026.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra under Prime Focus Studios, in association with Yash’s Monster Mind Creations, the two-part epic will be distributed globally by Sony Pictures, with Dharma Productions handling distribution in North India.
The film stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Kannada superstar Yash as Ravana. Yash also serves as a co-producer through Monster Mind Creations. The supporting cast includes Arun Govil as King Dasharath, Shobana as Kaikesi, Ravie Dubey as Lakshmana, Rakul Preet Singh as Surpanakha, Kunal Kapoor as Lord Indra, and Ajinkya Deo as Sage Vishwamitra.
According to the filmmakers, Ramayana: Part One follows the journey of Prince Rama, the earthly incarnation of Lord Vishnu, whose exile sets him on a path toward an inevitable confrontation with Ravana, the powerful king of Lanka. The conflict between the two forms the central arc of one of Hinduism’s most revered epics, exploring themes of duty, sacrifice, righteousness, and the triumph of good over evil.
Producer Namit Malhotra described the film as an effort to bring one of India’s most cherished cultural treasures to a global audience.
“The Ramayana is one of our greatest epics. It is woven into how we live, celebrate and pass our values from one generation to the next,” Malhotra said. “India has always lived this story. It is now our privilege to share it on a global stage.”
Director Nitesh Tiwari said the production team approached the adaptation with “complete honesty, authenticity and reverence.”
“Every creative decision we have made—from the writing and performances to the production design, music, visual effects and every frame on screen—has been guided by a single thought: to honour this extraordinary legacy with the dignity and respect it deserves,” he said.
The production brings together an international creative team. The screenplay is adapted by award-winning writer Shridhar Raghavan, while production design is led by Ravi Bansal and Ramsey Avery. Hollywood stunt coordinators Terry Notary and Guy Norris oversee the action sequences.
The film also features an original score composed jointly by Academy Award winners Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman, while visual effects are handled by DNEG, the eight-time Oscar-winning visual effects studio.
The makers say the collaboration combines Indian storytelling with global filmmaking expertise in an effort to present the Ramayana on a scale not previously attempted for the screen.
Ramayana: Part One is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release during Diwali 2026, with the second installment expected to follow thereafter.
