Johns Creek, GA, October 1, 2026: Runners, walkers, families, volunteers and civic leaders gathered at Cauley Creek Park in Johns Creek on Sept. 27 for the Heartfulness Green 5K Run & Walk, a community event organized to promote physical well-being, environmental awareness and support for Heartfulness-led ecological restoration efforts in India.
The event brought together participants from across metro Atlanta for a morning centered on health, community engagement and environmental responsibility. Organizers said the Green 5K was designed to connect personal wellness with a broader commitment to ecological sustainability, with proceeds and awareness generated through the event supporting environmental initiatives in the Mathura region of India.

Dr. Sumit Seth, Consul General of India in Atlanta, attended the event along with elected officials, civic leaders and community representatives.
Among the invited leaders were John Bradberry, mayor of Johns Creek; Georgia State Rep. Matt Reeves, representing House District 99; Georgia State Rep. Michelle Au, representing House District 50; Johns Creek City Council members Dilip Tunki and Erin Elwood; Forsyth County Commissioner Todd Levent, District 3; and Himanshu Karnwal, a board member of the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority.
Their participation added a civic dimension to an event that organizers described as an effort to bring people together around shared goals of health, service and environmental stewardship.

From the starting line to the finish area, the gathering drew runners of varying experience levels as well as walkers and families participating together. Volunteers supported registration, logistics, outreach and other event-day activities.
While the 5K focused on physical activity, its larger purpose was connected to an environmental campaign thousands of miles away.
The Atlanta event supported awareness and fundraising efforts associated with the Heartfulness Mathura Initiative, also known as the Vraj Vaibhav Abhiyan or Eco-Rejuvenation Project. The initiative is spearheaded by the Heartfulness Institute in partnership with the Uttar Pradesh Braj Teerth Vikas Parishad and focuses on restoring the ecological landscape of the Braj region, including Mathura, Vrindavan, Govardhan and Barsana.
Heartfulness Eco-Rejuvenation Project—Spearheaded by the Heartfulness Institute, focuses on restoring the ecological grandeur of the sacred (Mathura) in India. The region has faced severe degradation, with over 70% of its native tree cover gone and 80% of its historic water bodies heavily polluted.

The project aims to address those concerns through reforestation, restoration of native ecosystems and rejuvenation of water bodies, while preserving the natural and cultural heritage of the region.
Heartfulness Atlanta has sought to build support for the initiative among members of the Indian diaspora and the broader Atlanta community. Organizers said the Green 5K was intended to provide a local avenue for residents to contribute to that effort while also participating in an activity promoting fitness and well-being.
The event reflected a broader theme within Heartfulness programs that connects individual wellness with service and environmental responsibility.
Heartfulness, a global meditation and wellness organization, offers meditation programs while also supporting community and ecological initiatives. Its Atlanta chapter has organized programs centered on meditation, health, volunteer service and environmental awareness.
Organizers said the 5K demonstrated how local participation can contribute to broader environmental goals, linking a community gathering in Johns Creek with ecological projects underway in India.
The event was made possible through support from businesses, organizations, foundations and individual sponsors.

Sponsors and supporters included 33 Holdings, Suvidha, Patel Brothers, Swad, Raja Foods, Sheth Family Foundation, Chamblee Dental Care, Sainergy, Symbioun Technologies, Global Mall, Pyramid Consulting, Apne Wala, FOGA USA, HCL Global Systems and Sid Ganju.
Organizers thanked the sponsors for helping support the event and its objectives, while also recognizing volunteers who contributed time to planning, outreach, coordination and on-site operations.
The participation of families and community members was another central element of the gathering. Rather than positioning the event solely as a competitive race, organizers encouraged runners and walkers of different ages and fitness levels to take part.
That approach was intended to reinforce the event’s emphasis on community participation and collective action.
The Green 5K also highlighted the role diaspora organizations can play in connecting local community engagement in the United States with service projects in India. Through fundraising, awareness initiatives and volunteer participation, members of Heartfulness Atlanta have supported environmental restoration efforts in the Braj region.

For organizers, the connection between the two locations formed an important part of the event’s message: action taken within one community can contribute to environmental efforts elsewhere.
As participants completed the course at Cauley Creek Park, the event concluded with a message emphasizing the connection between individual action and collective purpose.
Heartfulness Atlanta summarized that theme with the phrase: “One Run. One Community. One Heart.”
The organization plans to continue community programs focused on meditation, wellness, service and environmental awareness, guided by its longstanding principle that meditation is free and accessible to all.
