New Gaushala Opens in Cumming, Creating a Sanctuary for Cows

BY JYOTHSNA HEGDE

Atlanta, GA, August 19, 2026: S3 Gaushala Atlanta officially opened its doors to the community on July 19, 2026, marking the beginning of a new space dedicated to the care and protection of cows and to fostering a spirit of seva, community involvement and respect for traditional values.

The opening ceremony, held at the S3 Gaushala Atlanta Chapter in Cumming, Georgia, began with Gau Puja and brought together members of the Indian American community, supporters, volunteers and well-wishers. In Hindu tradition, the cow is reverentially referred to as “Gau Mata,” meaning “Mother Cow,” and is regarded as a symbol of nurturing, abundance, compassion and selfless giving. The ceremony reflected the organization’s broader mission of creating a peaceful sanctuary where families can visit, participate in service activities and connect with the values that inspired the Gaushala’s establishment.

Located in Cumming, the Atlanta chapter is part of the S3 Gaushala initiative, describes its mission as being rooted in seva, dharma and community welfare through the protection and care of Gau Mata. The opening was led by S3 Gaushala Atlanta President Ramesh Gude and the Atlanta team including Vice President Sridhar Venkat, with community members gathering to offer prayers and extend their support to the new initiative.

Consul General of India in Atlanta Ramesh Babu Lakshmanan also visited S3 Gaushala on a later occasion, spending time at the facility and meeting those involved with its activities. His visit came after the formal opening ceremony and reflected the growing community interest in the Gaushala and its work.

With the Gaushala now welcoming visitors, organizers are encouraging families and individuals who wish to visit to register in advance. Advance registration is intended to help volunteers manage the number of visitors, preserve a peaceful environment at the sanctuary and address practical considerations such as parking.

“Visitors who would like to come to S3 Gaushala are requested to register in advance so that we can plan better and our volunteers can guide everyone efficiently,” the founders of S3 Gaushala said. “Limited time slots help us maintain the tranquility of the Gaushala and avoid overcrowding. We look forward to welcoming families and greatly appreciate the community’s cooperation and support.”

Visitors may select a preferred date and time slot, provide the number of guests and vehicles, and receive confirmation by email. Reservations can also be modified or canceled through the confirmation link if plans change.

As the Atlanta chapter begins this new phase, organizers hope the Gaushala will grow not simply as a physical sanctuary, but as a community space sustained through volunteerism, compassion and collective participation.
