Indian-Origin Leaders Across Fields Named to TIME100 2026 List

New York, NY, April 15, 2026: A diverse group of Indian and Indian American leaders across technology, entertainment, politics, medicine, and the culinary arts have been named to the 2026 TIME100, reflecting the growing global influence of the diaspora.

Among those recognized is Michelin-starred chef Vikas Khanna, founder of New York’s Bungalow restaurant, whose work spans cuisine, filmmaking, and humanitarian efforts. His films, including The Last Color and Barefoot Empress, have drawn attention to social issues such as women’s rights and dignity.

Also on the list is Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, who was cited for his leadership in artificial intelligence and for expanding access to AI tools used by billions worldwide. Under his leadership, Google has integrated its Gemini AI across major products, maintaining its position as a leading force in global technology.

Neal Mohan, CEO of YouTube, was recognized for strengthening the platform’s role as a dominant player in digital media. Since taking over in 2023, Mohan has overseen YouTube’s expansion into streaming, sports, and creator-driven programming, making it one of the most widely viewed platforms on television and online.

In entertainment, actor Ranbir Kapoor was honored for his contributions to Indian cinema and his ability to connect with audiences through understated, emotionally resonant performances. In a tribute written by actor Ayushmann Khurrana, Kapoor was described as helping reshape the emotional vocabulary of contemporary Indian film.

Political representation on the list includes Zohran Mamdani, whose rise to become one of the youngest mayors of New York City has drawn national attention. His grassroots campaign and policy agenda have positioned him as an influential voice within progressive politics.

In medicine, Kiran Musunuru was recognized for pioneering work in gene-editing therapy. Musunuru helped lead the development of a personalized CRISPR-based treatment for a rare disease in an infant, demonstrating the potential of rapid, targeted genetic interventions.

Together, the honorees reflect the breadth of Indian-origin impact across multiple sectors—from Silicon Valley and digital media to film, public service, science, and global cuisine—highlighting the diaspora’s expanding role in shaping conversations and innovation worldwide.
