Trump Says He Spoke to Modi, Extends Birthday Wishes in Social Media Post

Washington/New Delhi, September 16, 2025: U.S. President Donald J. Trump took to social media on Monday to announce that he had a “wonderful phone call” with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during which he wished him a happy birthday and praised his leadership.

In his post, Trump described Modi as a friend and commended him for “doing a tremendous job.” He also claimed that the conversation included Modi’s support for ending the war between Russia and Ukraine.

Indian media confirmed that Trump had indeed called Modi ahead of his 75th birthday. Modi later posted on X (formerly Twitter), writing: “Thank you, my friend, President Trump, for your phone call and warm greetings on my 75th birthday. Like you, I am also fully committed to taking the India-US Comprehensive and Global Partnership to new heights. We support your initiatives towards a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine conflict.”

While Trump’s post highlighted India’s backing of his role in resolving the Russia-Ukraine war, Modi’s message emphasized a broader commitment to peace and strengthening the India-U.S. partnership.
