Jaipur, India: The 25th International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards held in Jaipur on March 8 and 9 witnessed a historic moment as 17-year-old Nitanshi Goel triumphed over Bollywood heavyweights Alia Bhatt and Katrina Kaif to win the coveted Best Actress award. Goel’s powerful performance in Laapataa Ladies earned her the prestigious honor, making her one of the youngest recipients in IIFA history.
Laapataa Ladies, a comedy-drama directed by Kiran Rao, emerged as the biggest winner of the night, securing 10 awards, including Best Film and Best Director for Rao. The film, rebranded as Lost Ladies for its Oscar campaign, explores themes of patriarchy and gender roles through the story of two veiled brides accidentally swapped during a train journey.

Goel’s win marked a significant shift in the Bollywood landscape, highlighting the industry’s growing appreciation for unconventional narratives and fresh talent.
Meanwhile, Kartik Aaryan bagged the Best Actor award for his role in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, the latest installment in the popular horror-comedy franchise. Aaryan’s portrayal of a quirky psychiatrist dealing with supernatural events resonated strongly with audiences.
The star-studded evening was filled with memorable performances. Shah Rukh Khan captivated the audience with a nostalgic dance to his iconic songs, including Tujhe Dekha To Ye Jaana and Chak Dhoom Dhoom. Kareena Kapoor Khan paid a heartfelt tribute to her legendary grandfather, Raj Kapoor, commemorating his centenary in cinema.
Hosted by Karan Johar and Kartik Aaryan, the IIFA Awards 2025 celebrated not only established icons but also rising stars like Nitanshi Goel, whose success signals a promising future for the next generation of Bollywood actors.
