NRI PULSE STAFF REPORT
Atlanta, GA, March 20, 2025: The Georgia State Senate has passed a bipartisan resolution (SR #346) sponsored by Senator Sheikh Rahman (5th District) and co-sponsored by 46 Republican and Democratic senators, honoring Dr. Indran B. Indrakrishnan for his service to the state of Georgia. The resolution declares March 10, 2025, as Dr. Indrakrishnan Day in Georgia, marking a historic first for the Georgia legislature, with such recognition sponsored by a large number of senators from both political parties.
The Senate recognized Dr. Indrakrishnan for his tireless efforts in promoting awareness and screening for colorectal cancer and his dedicated work in improving rural healthcare in Georgia. Dr. Indrakrishnan serves on the Georgia Board of Health Care Workforce, which addresses the state’s healthcare needs, particularly in underserved rural communities. He was appointed to this board in 2017 by former Governor Nathan Deal and reappointed by Governor Brian Kemp.

The Georgia Board of Health Care Workforce focuses on enhancing healthcare access by supporting medical education programs and ensuring physicians and healthcare practitioners are available in rural areas. The board’s responsibilities include administering state funding for medical education, producing healthcare workforce data reports, and managing service-cancelable loan repayment programs. Many states across the country view this board as a model for improving rural healthcare services.

Dr. Indrakrishnan previously addressed the Georgia Senate on colorectal cancer prevention and later received the resolution in his honor. The resolution recognized him as a respected gastroenterologist, physician leader, and adjunct professor of medicine at Emory University School of Medicine and the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. It also highlighted his involvement as a Leadership Gwinnett alumnus and his active participation on the boards of several charitable organizations, including Rainbow Village, Fill Ministries, Third Eye Dancers, Meals by Grace, Georgia Colorectal Cancer Round Table, Fight Colorectal Cancer, and the Greater Atlanta Tamil Sangam. Additionally, he serves as a trustee at the Hindu Temple of Atlanta.
The resolution also acknowledged Dr. Indrakrishnan’s numerous awards from local, national, and international organizations. These honors include the Tamil American Pioneer Award from FeTNA, the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Canadian Tamil Information Center, and the Public Service Award from ATMA, among others.
This is the third time Dr. Indrakrishnan has received this distinguished honor, with the Georgia Senate recognizing him this year and the Georgia House of Representatives having passed similar bipartisan resolutions in 2018 and 2024.

Dr. Indrakrishnan has been a dedicated advocate for colorectal cancer prevention. Former Governor Nathan Deal and Governor Brian Kemp have consistently declared March as Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month over the past decade at Dr. Indrakrishnan’s request. Governor Kemp recently declared March 2025 as Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month and ceremonially presented the proclamation to Dr. Indrakrishnan. It is noteworthy to mention that this proclamation applauds Dr. Indrakrishnan’s GDC Endoscopy Center & his office for their contributions in the prevention & treatment of colorectal cancer.
Dr. Indran B. Indrakrishnan is a practicing gastroenterologist based in Lawrenceville, Georgia, with an adjunct professor appointment at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia.
