Greenville, SC, April 19, 2025: Tiru Chabba, a 45-year-old father of two and an Aramark executive from Greenville, South Carolina, was among the victims of the tragic mass shooting that unfolded at Florida State University’s student union on Wednesday, April 17.
Chabba, a regional vice president with Aramark Collegiate Hospitality, had devoted over two decades to the company. A graduate of The Citadel in South Carolina with an MBA, he was known for his professionalism, dedication, and compassion. He is survived by his wife and two children, who are now left to grieve an unimaginable loss.
“This is a tragic and senseless act of violence. Tiru was a devoted father and husband who went to work and never came home,” said civil rights attorney Bakari Sellers, who is representing the Chabba family. “We are working with the authorities and seeking justice for this incredible man who touched so many lives.”
The shooting, which took place around noon inside the FSU student union, claimed two lives and left six others injured. The other fatality was identified as Robert Morales, a dining coordinator at the university.
The suspected shooter, 20-year-old FSU student Phoenix Ikner, reportedly used a handgun registered to his mother, a veteran law enforcement officer. Ikner was shot by police during the incident and remains hospitalized. Authorities are still investigating the motive behind the attack.
Aramark issued a statement confirming Chabba’s death and expressing deep sorrow: “Tiru was not just a valued leader but a beloved colleague and friend. We are heartbroken by his loss.”
In the days following the tragedy, the FSU community has come together in mourning, organizing candlelight vigils and raising funds to support the families of the victims. Tributes have poured in for Chabba from colleagues, friends, and those who knew him in both South Carolina and Florida.
