Donald Trump Avenue Debuts in Hyderabad’s Tech Corridor

NRI PULSE STAFF REPORT

Hyderabad, INDIA, July 24, 2026— A road adjoining the U.S. Consulate in Hyderabad’s Financial District was formally renamed Donald Trump Avenue on June 23 during Freedom 250 celebrations commemorating the upcoming 250th anniversary of American independence.

The plaque was unveiled by U.S. Ambassador to India Sergio Gor, U.S. Consul General Laura Williams, and Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka.

Speaking at the ceremony, Gor said the U.S.-India partnership was increasingly visible in Hyderabad’s growth as a technology and innovation hub.

“Nowhere is the high-speed trajectory of our partnership more evident than in Hyderabad. From HITEC City to aerospace and defence, this region represents progress that is defining our bilateral momentum,” he said. He thanked the Telangana government for naming the road, calling it “a generous tribute” that reflected “the kind of strong, respectful partnership President Trump has championed for America.”

In a statement posted on X after the event, Vikramarka described the Telangana-U.S. relationship as “a deep cultural bond,” noting that Telugu is the fastest-growing language in America. He said cooperation between Telangana and the United States is expanding beyond information technology into artificial intelligence, clean energy, life sciences, and aerospace.

“Give Hyderabad a development center and receive global CEOs in return,” the deputy chief minister wrote, highlighting the city’s role as a destination for global investment and innovation.

Vikramarka also praised the U.S. Consulate for incorporating regional heritage into the design of its new building and said he looked forward to stronger bilateral cooperation.

Supporters of the renaming said it reflects Hyderabad’s growing importance in U.S.-India economic relations. The city hosts major operations of American technology companies and is home to one of the largest concentrations of U.S.-linked investments in India.

The decision has also drawn criticism from some political leaders and commentators, who questioned the appropriateness of naming a public road after a foreign political figure. Others argued that the road’s location next to the U.S. Consulate and within Hyderabad’s technology corridor made it a fitting symbol of the city’s ties to the United States.

The avenue is located near the U.S. Consulate in Hyderabad’s Financial District, a hub for technology, aerospace, and multinational business operations.
