Congressman Subramanyam introduces bill to increase transparency in DOGE

NRI PULSE STAFF REPORT

Washington, D.C., February 27, 2025: Congressman Suhas Subramanyam (D-VA) has introduced the Legislative Enforcement Against Setbacks from Harmful DOGE Actions Act (LEASH DOGE Act) to bring transparency and accountability to the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). The bill is co-sponsored by several lawmakers, including Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL).

The LEASH DOGE Act would require DOGE to publicly disclose a list of its employees and advisors, along with their background check status, security clearances, and potential conflicts of interest. It also mandates that DOGE testify before Congress on what sensitive information its employees can access.

Additionally, the legislation would require DOGE to create a public website with weekly updates on employee roles, federal job cuts, funding reductions, and points of contact for public inquiries. If DOGE does not comply with these transparency measures by March 31, 2025, it would lose access to congressionally approved funding.

Congressman Subramanyam stated that DOGE has made unauthorized decisions affecting federal workers and taxpayer data without oversight. “These bills are common-sense measures to finally make DOGE accountable to the American people and stop its leaders from illegally taking away congressionally authorized programs and services that make Americans safe, healthy, and prosperous,” he said.

In addition to the LEASH DOGE Act, Congressman Subramanyam also introduced the Accountability in Government Efficiency Act, which would require a detailed report on how DOGE’s actions impact the country’s financial stability, public health, and safety.

Both bills aim to ensure that DOGE operates under congressional oversight and does not overstep its authority in managing federal programs and sensitive data.
