NRI PULSE STAFF REPORT
Fremont, CA, June 23, 2025: A longstanding family-owned jewelry business in Fremont was the target of a t smash-and-grab burglary last week, leaving the local community shaken.
According to Fremont Police, approximately 15 masked suspects used a car to ram through the front entrance of Kumar Jewelers on Mowry Avenue around 5:30 p.m., just as the store was preparing to close. The suspects then stormed inside, using hammers to smash glass display cases and steal tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of jewelry. The entire burglary unfolded in less than a minute.
Three people were inside the store at the time—two owners and an employee. No injuries were reported.
Police responded quickly to the incident and located one of the suspect vehicles shortly afterward. Four individuals were arrested, and some stolen jewelry was recovered from the vehicle. The investigation remains ongoing, and law enforcement officials are seeking assistance from the public to identify the remaining suspects.
Kumar Jewelers has served the Fremont community for over 30 years and is well-known within the local Indian American community. Sheena Verma, daughter of the store’s owners, said the burglary was a devastating blow to the family. “This is the blood, sweat, and tears of my parents’ work over many years, gone in less than a minute,” she told local media.
The incident has renewed concerns about a rising trend of organized retail thefts in the Bay Area, particularly targeting jewelry stores.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Fremont Police.
