Indio, CA, April 16, 2025: April 12, 2025, will go down in history as a triumphant moment for South Asian music on the global stage. Indo Warehouse, the New York-based music collective known for blending South Asian sounds with house and techno, made a stunning debut at Coachella, one of the world’s most prestigious music festivals.
Founded by DJ-producers Kahani (Armaan Gupta) and Kunal Merchant, Indo Warehouse has been at the forefront of a musical movement they’ve coined “Indo House”—a genre that merges deep house beats with South Asian instruments, melodies, and rhythms. Their Coachella set, which included the electrifying track “Chaiyya II,” a modern reinterpretation of A.R. Rahman’s iconic “Chaiyya Chaiyya,” was met with roaring applause and dancing crowds.
The performance wasn’t just a set—it was a cultural celebration. Thumping beats intertwined with classical Indian chants, and the energy of Bhangra-inspired rhythms lit up the Sahara tent. For many in the crowd, it was their first exposure to this uniquely diasporic sound, and the response was overwhelmingly positive.
“Tonight was about showing the world who we are and where we come from—through sound,” Kahani said in a post-performance statement. “It’s a proud moment for our community.”
The Coachella performance followed Indo Warehouse’s successful nine-city sold-out U.S. tour, including a landmark show at the Brooklyn Mirage in New York. Their rise reflects a broader movement of South Asian artists redefining global music by embracing their roots and pushing sonic boundaries.
Indo Warehouse is set to return for another Coachella set on April 19, promising more high-energy fusion and cultural storytelling through music.
With their debut, Indo Warehouse has not only broken barriers but also opened doors for future South Asian representation at major festivals.
