July 30, 2026: A new documentary by conservative advocacy group Turning Point USA (TPUSA) is drawing attention online after alleging that Canada’s immigration system has become a major pathway for illegal migration into the United States, with Indian international students at the center of the investigation.
Released on July 30 by TPUSA’s investigative platform Frontlines, the documentary, From India to America: The Canadian Smuggling Route, follows journalists Tayler Hansen and Kian Simone as they travel along the U.S.-Canada border to investigate what they describe as an underreported migration route.
In a post announcing the film on X, TPUSA claimed that “nearly 50,000 Indians on student visas have disappeared from Canada’s immigration system,” adding that the issue extends beyond missing international students. The organization alleges that Canada’s immigration policies have created a pipeline into the United States through legal loopholes, visa overstays, and human smuggling networks.
The documentary also claims its reporters met with an alleged human smuggler operating on social media, documented active crossing routes, tested Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) response times along the border, and interviewed residents living near the U.S.-Canada frontier. It further examines the rapid demographic changes in Brampton, Ontario, one of Canada’s largest South Asian population centers.
TPUSA concludes that Canada has become “nothing more than a stepping stone into America” and argues that security along the northern border has received far less scrutiny than the U.S.-Mexico border.
According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), encounters involving Indian nationals along the U.S.-Canada border rose sharply during fiscal year 2023, with approximately 30,000 encounters recorded. Thousands more were reported during the following months as authorities documented growing use of Canada as a transit point by migrants seeking entry into the United States.
Federal authorities in both the United States and Canada have also prosecuted several human smuggling networks accused of transporting migrants across the northern border, underscoring concerns that organized criminal groups have exploited legal immigration pathways.
At the same time, CBP data show that northern border encounters have declined during 2025 and 2026 following tougher enforcement measures and changes to U.S. immigration policies.
The documentary arrives amid renewed political debate over border security and immigration enforcement, with proponents arguing that greater attention should be paid to the northern border, while critics caution against drawing sweeping conclusions from anecdotal evidence and unverified claims.
