NRI PULSE STAFF REPORT
Alpharetta, GA, January 30, 2026: A social media post that spread rapidly within community networks earlier this week described a disturbing account of a woman allegedly found in freezing conditions near the Fiserv parking area in Alpharetta, claiming she had been kidnapped and held against her will for more than a year. The post urged the public to contact the Alpharetta Police Department and listed the department’s non-emergency phone number.
The viral message stated that a woman, described as being around 30 years old, was found by a driver near the Alpharetta Fiserv area in extreme cold. It claimed that, after speaking with her, the driver learned she had been kidnapped, forced to cook and clean, and was too disoriented even to remember her name. The post identified her as “Veena,” alleged signs of severe neglect, and appealed for help locating family or friends, stating that she was temporarily safe in police custody.
However, information later gathered from community members who were present and directly involved indicates that the situation was not a kidnapping or criminal case, but seemingly that of a disoriented woman who had wandered away from home in the Alpharetta area after experiencing a mental health crisis.
According to an Alpharetta resident, he was driving near the Fiserv area when traffic ahead of him stopped abruptly. A woman had fallen onto the grass nearby, prompting a couple in the car ahead to stop and try to assist her.
“She was refusing to get into the car and kept saying, ‘I want to go home,’” he said. “When asked where home was, she said, ‘India.’”
The resident said he spent nearly half an hour speaking with the woman to understand her situation. She was barefoot, without shoes or a jacket, and dressed in regular clothing despite the cold weather. He described her as disoriented and confused.
“She told us her name was Veena,” he said.
Alpharetta police later responded and took custody of the woman as part of a welfare check.
Community volunteers later helped identify the woman and locate her family. It was determined that her actual name is not Veena. She is an Indian citizen who lives in the Alpharetta area and has two adult sons.
Community members familiar with the situation say she has been struggling with mental health issues.
She was later reunited with her sons and has returned home, according to the volunteer.
