Racist reactions to FBI director Kash Patel’s Holi post

NRI PULSE STAFF REPORT

Washington, DC, March 15, 2025: FBI Director Kash Patel recently faced a wave of racist and xenophobic comments after posting a message on X (formerly Twitter) wishing followers a “Happy Holi – The Festival of Colors.” The post featured a picture of a woman’s hands cupping vibrant Holi colors, a symbolic representation of the Hindu festival that celebrates the arrival of spring and the triumph of good over evil.

The post was met with backlash from some users who criticized the recognition of a non-Christian festival in the United States. One comment read, “Foreigners working for the United States government should not be celebrating their home country’s religious holidays. This is America, not India.”

Another commenter stated, “Cringe. You realize we don’t celebrate this holiday in America. Read the room.” Others took a more personal approach, suggesting Patel should “return to India” or questioning whether he would also recognize other religious observances like Eid or Purim.

Despite the negativity, Patel’s post also received support from users who praised the inclusive message. “Now this is a holiday I could get to like… especially the GOOD over EVIL part,” one supporter wrote. Others highlighted Holi’s cultural significance as a festival that promotes forgiveness, togetherness, and the renewal of relationships.

Holi, traditionally celebrated by Hindus worldwide, has grown in popularity across the United States, with major cities hosting large public celebrations that attract people of all backgrounds. The festival’s vibrant colors and message of unity resonate deeply in a multicultural society like America.

Many online users condemned the racist remarks against Patel, emphasizing that cultural diversity remains one of the country’s greatest strengths. “The diversity of the United States is its greatest strength,” one commenter remarked, supporting Patel’s positive post.
