NCAA Champion With Georgia Connection Honored at White House

NRI PULSE STAFF REPORT

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Indian-origin tennis player Dhakshineswar Suresh Ekambaram, who previously competed at Georgia Gwinnett College, was among collegiate champions honored at the White House, as U.S. President Donald Trump hosted NCAA title-winning teams.

Suresh, who now plays for Wake Forest University, is part of the school’s championship-winning men’s tennis program. Wake Forest secured the NCAA title in 2025, earning an invitation to the White House ceremony recognizing national champions across collegiate sports.

A native of Madurai, India, Suresh has emerged as one of the top players in U.S. college tennis. During the 2024–25 season, he was named an ITA All-American in both singles and doubles and earned ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors. He played a key role in Wake Forest’s title run, competing at the No. 2 position in singles and posting multiple wins against nationally ranked opponents.

Before transferring to Wake Forest, Suresh had a dominant stint at Georgia Gwinnett College, where he went undefeated in both singles and doubles during the 2023 season and helped the team win the NAIA national championship.

Social media posts circulating after the White House event suggested that President Trump gave Suresh a special mention during the ceremony.

Suresh’s presence at the event highlights the growing impact of Indian-origin athletes in U.S. collegiate sports. His journey—from a standout player in Georgia to an NCAA champion—reflects a broader trend of Indian players making their mark on the global tennis stage.
