From Scrolling to Reading: Cumming Book Club Celebrates Second Anniversary

NRI PULSE STAFF REPORT

Cumming, GA., April 28, 2026: The Read-O-Mania (RoM) book club marked its second anniversary with a lively spring celebration at Fowler Park, bringing together a growing community of readers for an evening centered on books, conversation, and camaraderie.

Founded on April 25, 2024, by Atlanta resident Rekha Radhakrishnan, the club was created to revive the habit of reading in an age dominated by constant digital scrolling. Two years later, RoM has grown to more than 40 members—known as “RoMis”—organized into four groups that meet monthly under Radhakrishnan’s facilitation.

Unlike traditional book clubs that focus on a single title, RoM follows a flexible format that allows members to read books of their choosing and share insights during meetings. The approach has introduced participants to a wide range of literature, with the group collectively covering more than 800 titles so far. Over the past two years, the club has also hosted two “Meet the Author” events, offering members opportunities to engage directly with writers. In addition, Radhakrishnan has collaborated with the Forsyth County Public Library to add six new books to its collection.

Saturday’s anniversary celebration reflected the club’s spirit of community. Members gathered at the park pavilion for a potluck, sharing homemade dishes and participating in book-themed games. The evening also featured recognition of members for their contributions and an open mic session where participants read excerpts and spoke about their favorite books.

In a creative display, attendees decorated the pavilion with printed words that captured their experience with the club, including “invigorating,” “vibrant,” “community,” and “connection.”

Members said the club has helped rekindle their love for reading while providing a space for thoughtful discussions across diverse topics. The event concluded with cake cutting, music, and dancing, highlighting the strong sense of community among participants.

From setting up decorations to cleaning up, members pitched in throughout the evening, reflecting the collaborative spirit that defines the group. As attendees left with goodie bags, many expressed enthusiasm for future gatherings built around their shared passion for books.

Residents in the Cumming, Johns Creek, Suwanee, and Alpharetta areas interested in joining the club can reach out via email at rombookclub@gmail.com.
