Taco Bell Fans Pick Butter Chicken Taco for US Debut in Global Vote

NRI PULSE STAFF REPORT

Irvine, CA, April 7, 2026: In a first-of-its-kind global promotion, Taco Bell has announced that American customers have chosen the Butter Chicken Taco—an India-inspired menu item—as the winner of its “Global Taco Vote,” paving the way for the dish to debut in the United States later this year as a limited-time offering.

The fast-food chain invited app users across the U.S. to vote between two internationally popular items: the Butter Chicken Taco, inspired by Indian flavors, and a Kickin’ Chicken Taco from Thailand. The India-inspired option won by a wide margin, securing roughly two-thirds of the vote, according to company updates.

The Butter Chicken Taco is a fusion take on the classic North Indian dish, featuring shredded chicken cooked in a creamy tomato-based sauce, layered with onions, cilantro, lettuce, and cheddar cheese, and served in a crispy chalupa-style shell.

The promotion marks Taco Bell’s first global menu competition and reflects a broader strategy to bring successful international items to U.S. consumers. The company has been expanding its menu experimentation through digital engagement, allowing customers to directly influence product launches.

Butter chicken, known for its mild spice and rich, creamy texture, is among the most widely recognized Indian dishes in the U.S., making it a natural candidate for crossover appeal.

Taco Bell has not yet announced an exact launch date but confirmed that the Butter Chicken Taco will be introduced nationwide later in 2026 for a limited run.
