WATCH: Kamala Harris launches ‘South Asians for the People’ initiative

NRI Pulse Staff Report

Atlanta, GA, September 12, 2019: Presidential candidate, Senator Kamala Harris recently launched ‘South Asians for the People’, a campaign initiative to mobilize support from the influential Indian-American and other South Asian communities around the US.

Harris derives her claim to Indian heritage from her mother, Shyamala Gopalan, a cancer specialist from Chennai.

“When I was a young girl visiting my grandparents in India, I’d join my grandfather and his buddies on their morning walk along the beach as they would talk about the importance of fighting for democracy and civil rights. Those walks made me who I am today, and that’s why I’m so proud to launch our South Asians For The People community,” she said through a video tweet.
