Dr. Jag Sheth receives RISE Citizen Award

BY JYOTHSNA HEGDE

Atlanta, GA, February 16, 2023: Padma Bhushan Dr. Jag Sheth was presented with the RISE Citizen Award on February 3, 2023, at the closing plenary of the RISE World Summit. The award recognizes Dr. Sheth’s impactful work in social development.

Dr. Sheth is the Charles H. Kellstadt Professor of Business, Goizueta Business School, Emory University. He is globally known for his scholarly contributions in consumer behavior, relationship marketing, competitive strategy, and geopolitical analysis.

RISE Awards recognize remarkable individuals who have undertaken exemplary initiatives for their communities and the world.

Some of the past RISE Citizen award winners include Prof. Philip Kotler, Father of Modern Marketing; Yosef Abramowitz, CEO of Gigawatt Global; Advocate Gopal Shankarnarayanan, Supreme court of India; Ms. Neeti Goyal, Pandemic warrior of India, and Mr. Shivanandan, Founder Roti bank of India.

“I’m truly humbled to receive this award,” Dr. Sheth told NRI Pulse. “This award is meaningful to me for two reasons. First, the RISE World Summit is a collaborative effort between three institutions that can save human lives – the government, industry and society. Getting together collaboratively is the only way to sustain UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). The second – if you take a grain of wheat and make it into a loaf of bread, the value add is only three times – agricultural commodity. If you take a rough diamond, polish it, a good diamond cutter will get 15 -20 times the value. But if you take a human being and mentor, nurture, educate – the value add is infinite. And that is the whole business we are in. Our business is to make ordinary people, extraordinary. I’m very passionate about that mission, which is why I’m so grateful to receive this award.”

He also added that his wife, Madhu Sheth has been a “great partner” and together they had contributed a lot to society. “Giving back is the only way to make life meaningful,” he said.

Founded in 2014 with the objective to help create a more Responsible, Inclusive, Sustainable and Eco-Friendly society (RISE), the Summit marked its 10th Anniversary this year. The virtual summit brought together 5000+ community leaders from over 60 countries working towards furthering UN SDGs.
