ICE raids anticipated in Atlanta this weekend, says local advocacy group

Atlanta, GA, June 21, 2019: Asian Americans Advancing Justice – Atlanta says the latest round of ICE raids are anticipated to begin in several major U.S. cities, including the Atlanta-metro area, this weekend. Thousands of raids will reportedly mainly target families and will unfold across several days.

“Immigrant families make up the fabric of our communities here in Georgia and deserve to be together and to live free of fear. Trump’s ICE raids are a savage form of family separation,” said a press release issued by the advocacy group.

Advancing Justice- Atlanta says it will band together with communities and advocates to protect immigrant families. “Immigrant communities are resilient and strong and will not stay quiet in the face of these cruel attacks,” said the release.

The release urged families and allies to stay vigilant and safe.

“Be wary of unfamiliar visitors to your home. If an ICE officer comes to your home, know that you do not have to open your door unless the officer has a warrant signed by a judge. Know that you have the right to remain silent and the right to speak to an attorney. We also urge families not to carry documentation about your country of origin,” said the release.

Local police department checkpoints are also reportedly being set up now – they have been seen already in Gwinnett, Dekalb, Cobb, Douglas, Clayton, and Coweta counties.

“All of our safety depends on all of us to band together and support our families. Call (470) 228-1963 to report an ICE raid on your community,” said the release.
