NRI PULSE STAFF REPORT

Lawrenceville, GA, February 1, 2026: A Gwinnett County police officer has died after being shot while responding to a call early Sunday morning, authorities said, marking a devastating loss for the department and the wider community.

Police Officer Senior Pradeep Tamang, 25, succumbed to his injuries following a shooting at a Holiday Inn Express in Stone Mountain. Tamang had joined the Gwinnett County Police Department in July 2024 and graduated from the department’s 121st Police Academy in May 2025.

The shooting occurred around 7:30 a.m. on February 1, when officers were dispatched to 1790 E. Park Place Blvd. in reference to a reported fraud call. According to police, officers made contact with a suspect at the scene, who then opened fire, striking two officers. Both officers returned fire, wounding the suspect.

Police Officer David M. Reed was also shot during the encounter and remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition, officials said. Reed joined the department in September 2015 and is a graduate of the 94th Police Academy.

The suspect has been identified as Kevin Andrews, 35. Andrews sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to be transported to the Gwinnett County Jail once released from the hospital.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has taken over the investigation, as is standard protocol in officer-involved shootings. Authorities said additional details will be released as the investigation continues.

In a statement, police officials expressed condolences to Officer Tamang’s family, friends, and colleagues, noting that his death is a profound loss to the department. Tamang is remembered by fellow officers as a young officer who had recently begun his career in law enforcement.
