Association of South Asian A Cappella announces seventh annual All-American Awaaz

Atlanta, GA, March 16, 2023: The Association of South-Asian A Cappella (ASA) is back and ready to host the seventh national South Asian A Cappella championship, All-American Awaaz. On Saturday, April 8th, 2023, competing groups from universities across the United States will be performing at the Rialto Center for the Arts, Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA to contend for the title of National Champion of South-Asian A Cappella.

“We are beyond grateful to be able to bring our 7th annual All-American Awaaz Championship to Atlanta, GA.” said Aashika Ashok, a co-director of All-American Awaaz. “With our biggest championship yet, we hope to share this beautiful genre with the city of Atlanta and celebrate our incoming 2023 National Champion’s win with you all” exclaimed Divyesh Balamurali, the second co-director.

Krishna Upadhyayula, the final co-director, stated that “the experience, the city, and our venue, the Rialto Center for the Arts at Georgia State University, has made us feel right at home as we prepare to give back by showing off the most talented a cappella teams in the nation to our incredible ATL audience! We are so excited to share our multi-cultural identity, through the form of a cappella, to the community that has received us with open arms.”

A cappella groups will be invited to compete at All-American Awaaz based on their performance in seven nationally acclaimed bid competitions, which take place early in the new year, starting in late January and ending in early March. The 2023 year bid competitions include:

  • Jeena (1/21) – Austin. TX
  • Anahat (1/28) – Berkeley, CA
  • Sangeet Saagar (2/04) – Raleigh, NC
  • Steel City Sapna (2/04) – Pittsburgh, PA
  • Mehfil (2/11) – Los Angeles, CA
  • Gathe Raho (2/18) – Iowa City, IA
  • Awaazein (3/11) – Dallas, TX

The Association of South-Asian A Cappella (ASA) is a non-profit organization that was founded in April 2016 by alumni of the South Asian A Cappella competitive collegiate circuit. The organization aims to build a nationwide network to unite the community and strengthen the bonds not only between groups and universities, but also between the South Asian and Contemporary A Cappella communities.
