Atlanta, GA: On March 25th, Access LifeAmerica organized Bollywood Beats – a musical event to promote their efforts of providing support to children and their families, who are fighting against cancer. Various local singers, musicians and dance groups participated and supported the event which was held at North Gwinnett High School in Suwanee, GA.
One of the biggest challenges faced by these families, is getting hygienic accommodation in Mumbai, during the treatment. These families come to Mumbai for treatment from remote parts of India and find it very expensive and strenuous to find a clean place to stay. Access Life provides temporary accommodation at their three locations in Mumbai, where these families are given home-like environment and also provided with facilities to improve the quality of life of these children by providing practical support services, educations resources and recreational programs.
Girish Nair, Gopal Nair, Parvinder Singh and Rajesh Veliyath started Access Life in 2014 with their first center at Chembur, with arrangement of 8 families to stay. A second center was started in the summer of 2016 at Thane, Mumbai and a third center was started in the winter of 2016 in Andheri.
The Andheri center is a spacious flat, used for patients of bone-marrow transplant. Children who come for treatment are battling against Lymphoblastic Leukemia, Part B Cell, Acute Leukemia and various other forms of cancer.
At these three centers, families share their endurance and provide support to each other, which is what is needed in such situations. Yoga classes are conducted regularly, along with daily meditation.
Bollywood Beats 2017 was inaugurated by Nagesh Singh, Consul General of India, Atlanta.
The cost to support the stay of 1 child and family is $ 287 per month, which goes towards to lodging, transportation, food and even tickets back to their home town. Access Life America(http://accesslifeamerica.org/) is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization.
