Alpharetta, GA, Sept. 21: Rock Mill Park in Alpharetta turned into a vibrant hub of energy and enthusiasm as over 100 spectators gathered to witness the Sewa International Women’s Cricket Tournament. Organized by Neetu Chauhan and Vijay Vaghela, with support from Vijay G, Manoj Sharma, Srikanth Tirumala, Praveen Lambade, Sai, and Jitendra Singh, the event was more than just a sporting contest—it combined community spirit, family bonding, and philanthropy.
The tournament was held to raise funds for Sewa’s ASPIRE Program, which focuses on K-8 education in underserved communities. Proceeds from the event will go toward supporting the program, giving the matches a charitable dimension that extended beyond the cricket field.
Five spirited teams competed in the tournament: Firebirds, Dazz Sports Desi Smashers, Fullcity Wonder Women, Supernovas, and BMP Strikers. Despite the sweltering 80–85°F heat, the competition was fierce yet friendly. The six-hour-long event was filled with cheers for every run, boundary, and wicket, reflecting the passion and sportsmanship of the players.
The tournament was officially inaugurated by Vikas Arora, Southeast Regional Director of Sewa, whose presence added to the day’s significance.
The event stood out for its family-friendly atmosphere. Children played an active role, offering snacks and water to players during breaks, while families bonded over the excitement of the games. The camaraderie and support extended well beyond the boundary lines, making the tournament feel like a true community celebration.
The finals saw the Firebirds clinch victory over the Dazz Sports Desi Smashers, who finished as runners-up. While the Firebirds took home the trophy, organizers and participants alike emphasized that the true victory lay in the empowerment, unity, and joy the event inspired.
By channeling all proceeds to the ASPIRE Program, the tournament ensured its impact would reach beyond the field, making a tangible difference in children’s education.
The Women’s Cricket Tournament will be remembered not only for its thrilling competition but also as a testament to the strength of women athletes, the power of community, and the joy of giving back. For many, it was a day where every participant and spectator walked away a winner.
