Chicago, IL, August 13, 2025: A 23-year-old woman from India, Srija Varma, tragically lost her life on Monday night after being struck by a speeding truck while crossing the road near her apartment in Chicago.
According to local reports, Srija, who had traveled to the United States for higher studies, was on her way to a nearby restaurant for dinner when the accident occurred. The truck reportedly hit her from behind, causing fatal injuries, and she died at the scene.
Srija was the elder daughter of Srinu Rao from Balaji Nagar in Medchal district. Originally from Dundigal in Medchal-Malkajgiri, she had recently completed her master’s degree in the U.S. and was preparing to start a job in Chicago. Her younger sister, Shreya, had also recently traveled to the U.S. to pursue higher education.
The family has appealed to Telugu associations in the United States for assistance in repatriating Srija’s remains to India. Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the accident, including the speed of the truck.
