Brevard County, FL., April 13, 2026: A former Burger King employee has been arrested after authorities say he used his knowledge of the store’s security system to steal thousands of dollars from a safe.
According to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred in mid-November 2025, when the manager of a Burger King restaurant reported that an unknown individual had entered the business after hours, accessed the office, and used a code to open the safe. Approximately $3,500 was reported stolen.
Investigators soon identified a former store manager, Kris Kumar, as a suspect. Kumar had recently been terminated after failing to report to work for several scheduled shifts. Authorities said he was one of the few individuals who knew the safe’s access code, raising suspicion about his possible involvement.
The case was assigned to East Precinct General Crimes Unit Agent Brian Otto, who used cell phone records and other investigative tools to track Kumar’s movements. Detectives said the investigation revealed that Kumar had visited a Home Depot store, where he allegedly made a duplicate key to the restaurant before returning his uniform and what management believed was his only key.
Based on the evidence gathered, a judge issued an arrest warrant for Kumar. He has been charged with burglary of an unoccupied structure and grand theft.
Authorities said Kumar later confessed to the crime, telling investigators that he acted out of frustration over what he believed was unpaid wages owed to him by the business.
Kumar was taken into custody and booked into the Brevard County Jail. The investigation remains closed following his arrest.
