Performing Arts Community of Atlanta Hosts Historic U.S. Segment of NSD’s Prestigious International Theatre Festival

In a landmark celebration of heritage and artistic collaboration, the Performing Arts Community of Atlanta (PACA) has stepped onto the global stage as an official participant in the 25th Bharat Rang Mahotsav (BRM) 2026. Under the banner of “PACA Theater Baton,” the Atlanta-based group hosted the United States segment of the prestigious international festival organized by the National School of Drama (NSD) in Roswell on February 15, marking a historic milestone for the South Asian diaspora in America.
Elegantly hosted by Sumana Goswami, Bhushan Niru Mehta, and Priyanka Dixit, the evening unfolded as a vibrant showcase of multilingual performances, reflecting PACA’s mission to celebrate India’s linguistic and cultural diversity through theatre.
Global Blessings from India
Adding international significance to the event, NSD Director Chittaranjan Tripathy joined the Atlanta celebrations via video call from India. He expressed his delight at the spirit of artistic “friendship” fostered by PACA Theater Atlanta and encouraged continued U.S. participation in Bharat Rang Mahotsav. He also thanked founder Ritambhara Mittal for her dedication in building cultural bridges across continents.
The festival was formally inaugurated by the Consul General of India in Atlanta, Ramesh Babu Lakshmanan, who applauded the performances and the collaborative spirit uniting theatre groups across the country. Participating ensembles included Mandi Theater from Chicago and Rangmanch Cincy from Ohio, underscoring the festival’s nationwide resonance.
Jairaj Kamal has been the pillar of the PACA Baton program, turning the vision of Bharangam Festival into reality through his full technical leadership and end‑to‑end execution, ensuring a flawless and successful event.
The program was made possible through the dedicated efforts of Pankaj Dixit, Vasudha Avadhani, Anshika Mishra, Ranjeeta Bhattacharjee, Arti Jain, Shilpa Gautam, Sachin Bapat and many others who worked tirelessly behind the scenes.
A Vision Rooted in Culture and Community
In exclusive conversations with NRI Pulse, PACA founder Ritambhara Mittal shared that the organization was born from a vision to explore performing arts in their fullest expression while nurturing young talent through children’s theatre. Drawing inspiration from the ethos of the National School of Drama, PACA seeks to contribute meaningfully to the global theatre fraternity, guided by the philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, the world as one family.
Mentor Nimish Sevak highlighted the group’s commitment with NRI Pulse to refining acting skills and presenting rich multilingual scripts from around the world, shaped by the guidance of respected mentors who have supported PACA’s artistic journey.
Authentic Performances, Modern Narratives
The dedication to craft was evident in a standout performance by Prafulkumar Panchal. A native Gujarati, Panchal embraced the challenge of mastering a Rajasthani accent for his role, dedicating hours to studying the cadence and tonal nuances until he captured its authenticity.
Representing PACA’s youth wing, child actors, inspired by the ancient epic Ramayana, reimagined with a contemporary twist through the integration of artificial intelligence. The innovative production concluded with a compelling environmental message, urging audiences to protect the planet.
A Dynamic Lineup of Plays and Performances
The event featured a vibrant mix of genres, blending tradition with modern storytelling. Highlights included a Kids Play in English by middle school performers, a forward-looking Sci-Fi Play on humanity and AI, and a culturally rich Rajasthani Play. Audiences also experienced a concise Pantomime Micro Drama, the narrative art of Dastangoi: Everyday Story, and a pairing of Ancient and Modern Comedy Plays showcasing timeless humor.
Together, the lineup reflected PACA’s commitment to multilingual theatre and diverse storytelling traditions.
Theatre with a Social Conscience
PACA collaborates with Renuka Molleti’s Haniya’s Hope Foundation to support autism awareness and community engagement.
With guidance from mentors including Mustafa Ajmeri, Krishan Goyal, Asha Gupta, Arvind Malhotra, Kallol Nandi, Sanjay Arora, and Bollywood actor Shishir Sharma, PACA stands as a testament to the transformative power of cultural exchange. Its participation in the 25th Bharat Rang Mahotsav affirms that theatre remains a unifying force, transcending borders and connecting communities worldwide.
