Singapore, Aug 5, 2025: An American couple was sentenced to jail on Monday for stealing luxury goods worth over S$1,200 (US$900) from Changi Airport while in transit to India.
Kapadia Husain Zoher, 35, a dentist, and his wife Kapadia Amatullah, 30, an engineer, were on a layover in Singapore on June 23 en route to Mumbai when they committed the thefts. The couple targeted stores at Terminals 1 and 3, stealing high-end perfumes and a Louis Vuitton card holder.
Court documents revealed that Zoher first stole three bottles of perfume worth S$488 from The Shilla Cosmetics & Perfumes store. Minutes later, he pocketed a Louis Vuitton pocket organiser priced at S$596.33. Later that evening, the couple stole a Dior Sauvage perfume worth S$158.40 from Terminal 3, with Amatullah acting as a lookout.
Security footage led airport police to the pair, who were arrested before their Mumbai-bound flight took off. All stolen items were recovered.
On August 4, a Singapore court sentenced Zoher to 18 days’ jail and Amatullah to seven days for their offences. Prosecutors said Zoher had a habit of overspending and acted out of “greed.”
Singapore has strict laws against theft, with offenders facing swift investigation and prosecution, especially in transit zones like Changi Airport.
