School Employee Charged After Slashing Husband’s Neck with Knife During Domestic Dispute

NRI PULSE STAFF REPORT

Charlotte, NC, October 25, 2025: As communities across the United States mark Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a case from North Carolina has brought renewed attention to domestic disputes escalating into violence. A 44-year-old woman employed by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School (CMS) district has been charged with assaulting her husband with a knife following what police described as a heated argument over household chores.

According to a police report obtained by local media, Chandraprabha Singh, a teacher assistant at Endhaven Elementary School in south Charlotte, allegedly attacked her husband after becoming upset that he had not cleaned the house. The incident occurred on October 12, at the couple’s residence in the Ballantyne area.

Responding officers found the husband, identified in reports as Arvind Singh, with a serious neck injury consistent with a knife wound. He was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Singh was subsequently arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, a felony offense under North Carolina law.

While the husband told police that his wife had intentionally attacked him, Singh claimed the injury was accidental. According to her statement, she was preparing food—making breakfast with a knife in hand—when she “turned suddenly,” resulting in the injury.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department spokespersons said investigators reviewed both accounts before filing charges. Singh was initially denied bond but later released on a $10,000 secured bond. She has been ordered to wear an electronic monitoring device and to have no contact with the victim while the case proceeds.

A spokesperson for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools confirmed that Singh has been suspended with pay pending the outcome of the investigation. “CMS takes all allegations of this nature seriously. The employee will remain on leave while we cooperate fully with law enforcement,” the district’s statement said.

Court documents indicate Singh has no prior criminal record. Her next court appearance is scheduled for later this month.
