Road in Hyderabad May Be Renamed ‘Donald Trump Avenue’

NRI PULSE STAFF REPORT

Hyderabad, India, December 8, 2025: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has stirred political debate with a proposal to name a key road in Hyderabad after U.S. President Donald Trump, a move aimed at boosting the state’s global visibility ahead of the upcoming Telangana Rising Global Summit.

According to officials, the road that runs alongside the U.S. Consulate General in Hyderabad is slated to be rechristened “Donald Trump Avenue.” The initiative is part of a broader branding effort in which several prominent roads may be named after international leaders, technology giants, and business icons. Proposed names include “Google Street,” “Microsoft Road,” and “Wipro Junction,” while a new greenfield radial road may be dedicated to industrialist Ratan Tata.

State government sources say the effort seeks to project Hyderabad as a hub of international business and innovation. By associating major thoroughfares with globally recognized personalities and corporations, the administration hopes to attract investors and signal the city’s growing international aspirations.

The proposal, however, has drawn sharp criticism from opposition leaders. Members of the BJP accused the government of using symbolic gestures to seek attention rather than focusing on what they call more substantive development priorities. Some leaders argued that renaming roads after “whoever trends globally” lacks historical or cultural context and amounts to political theatrics.

The move comes just days before the Telangana Rising Global Summit, where the state is expected to showcase major infrastructure projects and new investment commitments. Officials have indicated that the government will formally communicate with India’s Ministry of External Affairs and the U.S. Embassy regarding the naming proposal, though final approval remains pending.

If approved, the road could become one of the few public thoroughfares outside the United States named after a sitting American president—an outcome supporters say will draw global media attention, and critics say will do little beyond generating headlines.
