Man Arrested on Grand Larceny Charges for Holding Two Jobs at the Same Time

NRI PULSE STAFF REPORT

New York, Oct 27, 2025: A 39-year-old Indian-origin man from New York, Mehul Goswami, has been arrested on charges of grand larceny in the second degree for allegedly holding two full-time jobs—one with the state government and another with a private technology firm—at the same time.

According to the New York State Inspector General’s Office, Goswami was employed as a full-time worker at the New York State Office of Information Technology Services (ITS) while simultaneously working as a contractor for GlobalFoundries, a semiconductor company based in Malta, New York. Investigators allege that he fraudulently received over $50,000 in state salary during the period of dual employment.

Authorities said the case came to light following an anonymous tip, which prompted a joint investigation by the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office and the Inspector General’s Office. Goswami was arrested on October 15 and later arraigned in Saratoga County Court, where he was released on his own recognizance, as the offense does not qualify for bail under current New York law.

If convicted, Goswami could face up to 15 years in prison, as the alleged offense constitutes a Class C felony under New York State law.

In a statement, the Inspector General’s Office emphasized that public employees are entrusted with taxpayer-funded positions and are prohibited from engaging in outside full-time work that interferes with their state duties. The office said the investigation highlights the growing challenge of enforcing employment ethics in the remote-work era, when verification of full-time commitment is more difficult.

The case has attracted attention both in the United States and in India, given Goswami’s Indian-origin background, and has reignited debate over “moonlighting” — the practice of holding multiple jobs without disclosure.
