Johns Creek now has Georgia’s first cricket batting cage in a public park

By Rabindra Chakraborty

Atlanta, GA, July 2, 2019: Johns Creek created history on June 11, 2019 when the first ever cricket batting cage in any public park in the state of Georgia was inaugurated in the Shakerag Park facility.

At the ribbon-cutting, a cheering crowd welcomed the city’s bold step in recognizing its demographic diversity and creating a progressive vision of patronizing a popular sport like cricket among its residents.

The initiative was made possible by the tireless effort of Shafiq Jadavji, a passionate promoter of cricket in the USA and Venu Pisike, board member of the USA Cricket Team (an ICC recognized governing body for cricket in the US), amongst others. The managers and officials of Johns Creek Recreation & Parks, including Kirk Franz, Robby Newton and Tracy Stephens and the CEO of Johns Creek Chamber of Commerce Kent Davies were instrumental in making this project successful.

Members of the Atlanta Cricket Academy and the BAGA cricket team participated in the ribbon-cutting and are amongst the first players to try these new batting cages.

Johns Creek residents look forward to having dedicated cricket grounds and well-practiced teams to play other cities in the near future.
