NRI PULSE STAFF REPORT
Hyderabad, July 24, 2025 – U.S. retail giant Costco Wholesale is setting up its first Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Hyderabad, a move expected to create about 1,000 jobs in the city’s fast‑growing technology sector.
According to industry sources, the facility will serve as a technology and innovation hub, supporting Costco’s global operations in areas such as software engineering, research and development, analytics, finance and marketing technology. The company has not yet released an official statement on the launch, but reports indicate that hiring will begin in phases over the coming months.
Hyderabad, often referred to as “Cyberabad,” has emerged as a preferred destination for multinational companies establishing GCCs. The city already hosts centers for firms like McDonald’s, Heineken and Vanguard, while Bengaluru has similar facilities for Walmart and Target.
Analysts say Costco’s entry underscores a shift in how global capability centres operate in India. “These centres are no longer just cost‑saving back offices; they are becoming innovation engines handling AI, cloud, and data‑driven solutions,” said a technology consultant familiar with the sector.
The Indian GCC market, valued at $64.6 billion in FY 2024, is projected to touch $99–105 billion by 2030, according to Nasscom and Zinnov. The influx of such high‑skill jobs is also expected to boost salaries and generate indirect employment in supporting sectors like training, infrastructure and logistics.
Costco joins a growing list of global retailers leveraging India’s deep talent pool to drive digital transformation and streamline worldwide operations.
