Austin, TX, July 7, 2025:Tesla Chief Financial Officer Vaibhav Taneja has been named treasurer and custodian of records for Elon Musk’s newly launched political organization, the America Party, according to Federal Election Commission (FEC) filings.
The filing comes just days after Musk officially announced the formation of the party via a post on X (formerly Twitter) on July 5. He described the America Party as a platform aimed at restoring individual freedoms and offering an alternative to the existing two-party system in the United States.
Taneja, who has served as Tesla’s CFO since August 2023, is now tasked with overseeing the financial operations and compliance requirements of the America Party. In addition to his role at Tesla, Taneja has also served in key financial leadership roles within the company and its subsidiaries, including SolarCity and Tesla India.
According to the FEC document, Taneja is listed as the official treasurer and custodian of records for the party, responsible for maintaining all financial reports and ensuring compliance with campaign finance laws.
While Musk has not publicly commented on Taneja’s appointment, multiple reputable news outlets, including Time, Reuters, and The Associated Press, have confirmed the filing’s authenticity. Some social media posts have circulated images of the FEC documents with speculation about their legitimacy, but no official correction or retraction has been issued.
The launch of the America Party marks Musk’s most direct foray into American politics.
