Senator Ossoff endorses Ashwin Ramaswami for Georgia State Senate District 48

NRI PULSE STAFF REPORT

Johns Creek, GA, July 1, 2024: Senator Jon Ossoff has officially endorsed Ashwin Ramaswami’s campaign for Georgia State Senate District 48. Ramaswami is challenging incumbent State Senator Shawn Still, who is currently facing indictment alongside former President Donald Trump for attempting to overturn the 2020 election results.

“Ashwin Ramaswami would be a tireless advocate for democracy and his constituents in the Georgia State Senate,” Senator Ossoff stated. “The contrast could not be clearer: Ashwin is a former election security expert and he is running against a MAGA politician alleged to have participated in an effort to steal the 2020 election when Raphael Warnock and I were on the ballot. It’s not an exaggeration to say that democracy is on the ballot in Senate District 48. We need Ashwin in the State Senate – and I’m proud to stand behind him in this race.”

Ramaswami expressed his gratitude for the endorsement, highlighting Ossoff’s accomplishments and the importance of protecting these achievements from far-right influences. “From delivering billions in Georgia infrastructure upgrades to tackling climate change to strengthening our cybersecurity – Senator Ossoff has been a champion for Georgia,” Ramaswami said. “But those successes only go so far if they’re eroded by far-right Republicans like my opponent at the state level. I’m so grateful to earn Senator Ossoff’s support, and I look forward to working with him in the fight to expand healthcare access, invest in housing options, and protect our elections from extremists who seek to undermine them.”

Senator Ossoff serves on the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs (HSGAC), which oversees the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). Ramaswami, who previously worked at CISA on election security, left his position to run against Shawn Still. His campaign has gained significant support, raising over $280,000 through grassroots efforts. Ramaswami’s platform focuses on crucial issues such as funding education, supporting small businesses, advancing technological preparedness, and safeguarding voting rights.

The Georgia State Senate District 48 race is highly competitive, with the district having narrowly favored Biden in 2020 and Warnock in the 2022 runoffs. This seat is considered a top pickup opportunity for Georgia Democrats.

Ramaswami is a Johns Creek native and the son of immigrants from India. His professional background includes work with nonprofits, startups, and small businesses, utilizing technology for the public interest and job creation. At CISA, Ramaswami focused on cybersecurity and election security, collaborating with state and local offices to secure the 2020 and 2022 elections. He also served as a legal fellow in the Georgia Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division.

If elected, Ramaswami would be the first Indian American in the Georgia state legislature and the first Gen Z State Senator in Georgia.
