Johns Creek 3rd grader wins top math award

Atlanta, GA, May 21, 2019: Sheehan Banka, a 3rd grader at Findley Oaks elementary in Johns Creek, GA won the top rank in the state as well as national level for the 3rd grade competition organized by Math Kangaroo US.

A total of 5261 third graders participated in the competition. Sheehan scored a perfect 100%.

Math Kangaroo is an annual international mathematical competition. In the US, it takes place every year on the third Thursday in March, across several cities. Students all from grades 1 to 12 are invited participate.

Math Kangaroo’s vision is to encourage students to learn mathematics by presenting them with problems that are interesting and by rewarding their efforts.

Questions are selected by an international committee of mathematicians. In addition to medals and certificates of achievement, national and state winners are awarded prizes, like books, games, gift cards, toys, college grants and mathematical summer camps in the U.S. or in Europe.

Presently, over 6 million students throughout the world take part in the competition.
