Indian Embassy Warns of Fraudulent Calls Targeting Community

NRI PULSE STAFF REPORT

Washington, D.C., August 26, 2025: The Embassy of India has issued an advisory warning members of the community about fraudulent calls from individuals impersonating embassy officials in an attempt to extort money or personal information.

According to the embassy, scammers have been spoofing official phone lines to mislead people into believing the calls are legitimate. Victims have reported being told there were mistakes in their consular forms or that complaints had been filed against them with Indian police or Interpol.

The embassy clarified that no official from the mission ever calls individuals to seek personal information or demand money. “Any such call is fraudulent, and community members are urged to remain vigilant,” the statement said.

The embassy has advised anyone receiving such calls to immediately report them to the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) at www.ic3.gov.

The advisory was issued by the Press, Information & Culture Wing of the Embassy of India in Washington, D.C.
