Atlanta, GA/Dallas, TX, July 7, 2025: A vacation ended in unimaginable tragedy for an Indian American family of four when their vehicle was struck head-on by a truck and caught fire near Dallas on Sunday, July 6. The victims, identified as Sree Venkat, his wife Tejaswini, and their two young children, were returning from Atlanta after visiting relatives when the deadly crash occurred.
The family had been driving along a highway in Greene County, Texas, when a truck traveling in the wrong direction collided with their SUV. The impact caused the vehicle to burst into flames, trapping the occupants inside. All four were pronounced dead at the scene.
Local authorities said the crash occurred at high speed and that the truck was reportedly on the wrong side of the road. The fire that erupted after the collision left little chance for rescue. Emergency responders were unable to reach the victims in time.
Originally from Hyderabad, India, the family had been living in the United States and were on a summer road trip. They had just spent a week with extended family in Atlanta and were en route back to Dallas when the crash happened.
The Indian Consulate in Houston has been in contact with local officials and is assisting the family’s relatives with repatriation of the bodies and other formalities. Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances that led to the truck driving the wrong way.
