Cumming, GA, February 9, 2026: Three South Forsyth High School students, Sarah Malil, Yashoshree Mopuru, and Elana Paul, saw a problem in their community and decided to solve it. As South Asian teens, they realized that conversations about skin health and sun safety were often overlooked, even though skin cancer is one of the most preventable cancers.
Their response is SkinScope, a student-led initiative bringing sun protection, education, and awareness to Forsyth County. The team is installing sunscreen dispensers in public spaces, teaching both youth and seniors about skin health, and partnering with respected organizations like the Georgia Cancer Center and Impact Melanoma to guide their efforts.
“What started as a simple idea quickly turned into a community mission,” the founders said. “We wanted to make sun safety visible, accessible, and something everyone can do every day.”
Through SkinScope, the students are showing how young people can make a tangible impact on public health. Their initiative combines advocacy, education, and service, turning awareness into action and inspiring others to take part.
Community members who want to support SkinScope’s efforts can contribute through the initiative’s GoFundMe, helping to expand sunscreen access throughout Forsyth County.
