Dawson County Recognizes Ugadi with Official Proclamation

NRI PULSE STAFF REPORT

Dawson County, GA, March 22, 2026: The Dawson County Board of Commissioners has issued a proclamation recognizing Ugadi, the Telugu New Year, honoring a cultural tradition celebrated by many in the local community.

A proclamation is an official acknowledgment by the county that highlights significant events and communities. Officials said the recognition reflects Dawson County’s continued commitment to diversity and inclusion as its population becomes increasingly multicultural.

Ugadi, which marks the beginning of a new year in the Telugu calendar, symbolizes new beginnings, hope, and prosperity. It is widely celebrated across India—particularly in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka—and coincides with similar New Year festivals observed in other states under different names.

“This recognition means a lot to our community and reflects the welcoming and inclusive spirit of Dawson County,” a community representative said.

Residents also expressed appreciation to county leadership for recognizing cultural traditions that contribute to the county’s growing diversity and cultural richness.
