Bollywood star Aamir Khan and his extended family have expressed distress over recent public statements made by his brother, Faissal Khan, who accused them of mistreating him in the past.
In a recent podcast interview, Faissal alleged that he was once confined inside Aamir’s home for a year, kept under guard, denied a phone, and forcefully medicated. He claimed the family labeled him schizophrenic and a threat to society, and that he was also kept for 20 days in a psychiatric ward against his wishes. Faissal said he even reached out to industry figures like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Aditya Chopra for help, but received no assistance.
Faissal has repeatedly denied having any mental illness, stating that a court-ordered evaluation at JJ Hospital found him to be of sound mind and fit to care for himself. “I have forgiven them, but I can’t forget,” he said, adding that he now keeps his distance to maintain his dignity.
On August 11, Aamir Khan and several family members—including Reena Datta, Junaid Khan, Ira Khan, Kiran Rao, Mansoor Khan, and Imran Khan—issued a joint statement defending their actions. They said they were “distressed by Faissal’s hurtful and misleading portrayal” of his mother Zeenat Tahir Husain, sister Nikhat Hegde, and Aamir himself.
Dismissing any suggestion of foul play, they noted, “It is important to share that every choice regarding Faissal has been taken collectively as a family, in consultation with multiple medical professionals, and has been based on love, compassion, and a desire to support his emotional and psychological wellbeing. For this reason, we have refrained from publicly discussing the details of a painful and difficult period for our family.”
The rift between Faissal and his family has been public for years, with both sides offering sharply different accounts of past events.
