NRI PULSE STAFF REPORT

Los Angeles, CA, August 12, 2025: A 70-year-old Sikh man is fighting for his life after being viciously beaten with a golf club during his morning walk near the Sikh Gurdwara of LA in North Hollywood on August 4.

The victim, identified as Harpal Singh, was found with severe head and facial injuries after the attack. Family members say he has undergone three surgeries for broken facial bones and bleeding in the brain. He remains in a medically induced coma and is unresponsive.

According to witnesses, the suspect is a man in his 50s who was seen riding a bicycle near the scene. Police have not yet made an arrest. The Los Angeles Police Department has said the assault is not currently being investigated as a hate crime, though the Sikh community has expressed fears that it may have been racially motivated.

Community members and civil rights groups, including the Sikh Coalition and CAIR-LA, have called for a full investigation and increased police patrols around places of worship. “An assault on any one member of our community is an assault on all of us,” said LA Councilmember Adrin Nazarian.

Singh’s family has launched a fundraising campaign to help with mounting medical expenses and is appealing for witnesses to come forward with information.

The attack has shaken the tight-knit Sikh community in North Hollywood, with many urging authorities to treat the incident with urgency and to ensure the safety of religious and ethnic minorities.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the LAPD.
