Robert Arnett and Smita Turakhia's children's book which is set in India, Finders Keepers?, has won the prestigious 2005 Mom's Choice Award for Best Children's Educational Picture Book.
The panel of judges for the Mom's Choice Award included: Twila
Liggett, creator and executive producer of "Reading Rainbow" on PBS; Julie
Aigner-Clark, creator of the "Baby Einstein" series; and selected co-authors
of the "Chicken Soup" series.
Arnett was inspired to write the book after he lost his wallet while traveling in
India. The boy who found and returned Arnett's wallet didn't understand why Arnett wanted to reward him for simply doing the right thing.
Arnett, teamed with illustrator Smita Turakhia to produce a book that
emphasizes timeless values for children while taking them on a journey
through India. The desire to share the best of Indian culture with the people in other parts of the world inspired Smita to create paintings for the multi-award-winning Finders Keepers?.
The hardcover book for ages 4-12 is 32 pages, with 34 original color illustrations, a glossary, pronunciation chart, self-help guide and index.
Finders Keepers? also has won the following awards:
• One of 10 Most Outstanding Books of the Year by the Independent Publishers
the Most Inspirational to Youth Book Award.
• The Benjamin Franklin Silver Medal for the Best Multicultural Book of the Year.
