Saakaar Readies its Next Comedy: “Ek Tha Gadha”

Saakaar – the group of local theater enthusiasts, is getting ready to present its next comedy production – “Ek Tha Gadha” by noted Hindi satirist Sharad Joshi. The group has been rehearsing for past two months and presents the new play on September 4, 11 and 12, 2004 in Hindu Temple of Atlanta, Riverdale and Berkmar High School, Lilburn.

Sharad Joshi is well known for his quick wit and humor in many plays and TV serials like “Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi”, and his satires are both very funny and insightful. “Ek Tha Gadha” relates the hilarious story of a Nawab who will stop at nothing to gain popularity and political mileage. The bittersweet comedy portrays the underside of political skullduggery and examines the role of a common man in the political maze. Therefore, it maintains a universal relevance across countries, cultures and eras. Saakaar will present the play in traditional Indian theater form with lots of music, songs and dances through out the performance.

Saakaar is a Not-for-profit group created by local theater enthusiasts from south Asia, who have come together through their love for the stage. In past, Saakaar members have produced hit comedies like Neil Simon’s “The Odd Couple” and “Rumors” and Badal Sarkar’s “Ballabhpur ki Roopkatha”, which have been received very well by the Atlanta audience. The group has been passionate about producing plays and promoting local talents and performances.
