First South Asian-American Actress Shares Spotlight with Cheney

Indo-American actress, Namrata Singh Gujral, of CBS's "The Agency" and Bollywood's "Kaante", becomes the first South Asian-American, to speak at the annual CPAC Entertainment Panel in Washington D.C. This February 18th, Namrata shared the spotlight with several high profile figures including VP Dick Cheney, at this event.

Namrata was invited to speak on behalf of American Pride Films Group, a non-partisan film production company in Hollywood, geared toward projects that show case America's finer points via the medium of movies.

On this trip to D.C., Namrata also met with several high profile figures on the Hill, including fellow South Asian, Bobby Jindal. Following the path of Jindal's historic election to Congress, Namrata's presence on this prestigious panel, is yet another step toward furthering the visibility of South Asian-Americans within mainstream America.

Namrata is the President of American Pride Films Group, commonly referred to as, APFG. The company's mission is to make movies that showcase the reality of average Americans, who like you and I, are not interested in global domination but have a human and compassionate side. With this message, APFG hopes to overcome some of the negative American sentiment found overseas and at home, changing hearts and minds along the way.

APFG's plans are well underway, with development of their first feature film, already in full swing. Along with other co-founders of the Company, Namrata has been busy setting up APFG this past year and identifying materials to produce that meet the company's goals but are also commercially viable. The first film is expected to hit the floors, late 2005.

Namrata has been on the leading edge of the South Asian American crossover cinema and is fast making her mark in Hollywood. After just three months of starting her career in 2001, Namrata booked the recurring role of Fari Bin Ghori in CBS's Primetime drama "The Agency". Rapidly on its heels, followed the role of Renu Mathur in Indian Blockbuster "Kaante", which made Namrata the only American actress to work in multiple big banner Hollywood and Bollywood productions, all in her first year in the industry. Namrata also essayed the recurring role of Nurse Kathy, on NBC'S Daytime Drama "Passions", from 2001 to 2004.

Namrata has received rave reviews for her work, including CBS's "Family Law" where she, along with co-stars Tony Danza, Kathleen Quinlan and director Fred Gerber, were Columbia Tristar's official nomination for Emmy Awards for 2002 for "Security". Other select credits include lead roles in soon to be shot "Himalayan Rhapsody", Aparna Malladi's "Mitsein" and Divya Jyoti Films upcoming production "Fire Dance" - all up for release in 2006, guest stars on ABC's "Dragnet", UPN's "Arrest and Trial", The Casey Company's "Fun and Friends" and cameos in Oscar nominated "The House of Sand and
Fog" and the Denzel Washington starrer "Training Day". X-Box fans can also hear Namrata portraying the character of "Jaya Kushala" in Microsoft's popular game "Quantum Redshift".
