Sikh Community Fundraiser for Karanjeev

On November 6, Sikh Community Network (SCN) held a fundraiser to help a young boy to lead a normal life. Karanjeev Singh Sachar, a fourteen year old, needs a liver transplant in order to continue a healthy lifestyle. To achieve this, the high cost of health care has produced a difficulty for the Sachar family who will have to cover costs of up to $100,000 for this treatment. As a Diwali celebration, a fundraiser was held at a local Indian restaurant where Sikh families came out to help this good cause.

On this Diwali, SCN sought to help young Karanjeev. In this effort, a number of initiatives were pursued which included support from local Sikh youths who were also actively involved in the drive for the contribution by collecting donations from families. The highlight of the evening was the auction of prized items donated by many Sikh families of Atlanta. The auctioneers were able to bring the audience to bid generously which greatly contributed towards the fund for the Sachar family.

The Diwali function was a great success for the sheer fact that the Sikh community of Atlanta came together at the time of need demonstrating their fundamental beliefs in sewa (helping others) and good will.

The fundraiser brought in $15,100 to go toward the liver transplant. On December 8 this check was presented to the Sachars who are very grateful to the Sikh community and SCN for their support and effort.
