NRI Parents in Search of Grooms & Brides at Hyderabad Meet

BY UMA SHANKAR KALIVIKODI

You find plenary sessions and the addresses by none other than the Indian Prime Minister and the President at the HICC, Asia’s biggest conference hall, in Hyderabad. At the same you would watch with rare feel of ease the matrimonial sessions by the NRIs outside the conference hall. A jolly transformation of the ideas from the bureaucratic “e-governance, investment and remittance” to “Horoscope and muhurts”. Thus, delegates of the 4th Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas had found ample time to dive into the waters of matrimony for their sons and daughters, and to themselves, if married or divorced. As rhetoric by the politicians of different states is underway, a mom and her dolly (daughter) take time to whisper in silence while taking their lunch. The all-caring mother would lesson the much-required mannerism to the daughter.

Similarly, a proud NRI dad would be doing the same thing to his son. Talking to www.c2b2bnews.com, Harish Joseph, an NRI from Canada, says: “Yes, I want my son to be married to a great-looking damsel. I prefer a model-like figure. After all, personality is a raking thing in this generation of fashion. Let she be a good earner of monies too.” Ms. Sony Jaya, an entrepreneur in handicrafts from South Africa, opined that “PBD event is not only for studying the possibilities of investing in India, but also to search for bridegrooms and brides for the overseas youth. Most of the NRIs and PIOs, who are naturally rich, would inevitably cherish a good desire – to see the alliances from India, their land of hope and emotional succor.”

Another youngster Dr. Jayanth Agasthya, a PIO from Fiji Islands said he has been in love with a Hyderabad-based girl, a medico for the last couple of years. “Thanks to Yahoo chat!” “Now, I found the opportunity through PBD-2006. I am not only a delegate but also a lover in my own right. After marriage, I wish to answer my indebtedness to my root-country with a good gesture. Investment or taking a bride from her land,” he quipped, yet with meaning underlying in it. Considering this pleasant side-development in the NRI conclave, it is not an exaggeration to say that there would certainly come a time – of course in the next PBD – PBD 2007 – when the astrologers and marriage-setters would be taking an active part in a plenary session, exclusively to sing the marriages across the continents. Interestingly, it is to be noted that already a good number of matrimonial sites have brought the Indian Diaspora on the Internet platform. This extended would result in an integral part of the overseas conclaves. A Kuwait-based NRI observed on condition of anonymity that an NRI meet would also be a perfect venue to discover successful Indian boys who are conscious of their culture and traditions.

The 4th PBD-2006 a cosmopolitan mix of men and women, young and old, though their number in participation is thinned down drastically compared to the Bombay meet last year. Also, thanks to the mushrooming up of the multi-national companies and their employment opportunities to the deserving with happy deputations abroad, it proved a booming time for the romantic youth with matrimonial interests. There is a certain section of the NRIs which vies for links with the aristocratic breed of his counterparts. “The present conference of the NRIs gives a nice opportunity to make talks with people of different types, tempers and classes. My sons have now made friendship with girls of their choice in Bangalore. I don’t stop them if they want to marry.” You also have semi-reserved moms who boast of the physical measurements of their sons. Mony Thomas, an NRI from South East Asia, said that her son was a handsome guy who wielded excellent physic fit for a military job. “I have left the choice of his marriage to himself. Let him have his own plans. You know, it is certainly he who would be marrying,” she laughs. “Definitely, the craze for Indian boys and girls is really there in India.”

Parthu Gorentella, an NRI who hailed from Srikakulam observed that: “I have seen the two sides of a coin. There is a mad rush going on for grooms and brides adapted to the western culture. But, I strongly condemn it. If this is allowed to continue, you would loose the bliss in Indian matrimony. Let us all come back to the roots, when it comes to marriage factor.” His wife in all humility says: “We know, we can’t stop our children. They have learnt the idea of freedom more than us.”
