GIACC Hosts Reception For Gujarat Delegation;
New Officers for 2005 Announced

The Georgia Indo American Chamber of Commerce (GIACC) hosted a dinner reception for a Gujarat, India delegation on November 30, 2004 at the Palace Restaurant in Norcross, GA. 

GIACC welcomed from the State of Gujarat: Mrs. Anandiben Patel, Minister of Education; Mr. Anilbhai Patel, State Minister of Industries, and Mr. Arvind Agarwal, Industries Commissioner; 

Mr. Robb Pitts, the Fulton County Commissioner was welcomed and he addressed the group. He announced that Fulton County, which is the largest County in the state of Georgia, is in process of opening an office in Bangalore, India. He would give additional details in future meetings.

The visiting delegation’s main objective was to increase foreign direct investments in the State of Gujarat. Mr. Anilbhai Patel and Mr. Arvind Agarwal talked about tremendous opportunities in the state of Gujarat in Agro & Marine, Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals, Engineering & Automobiles, emerging Technologies (Nanotechnologies, Biotech, ITES), Tourism and Coastal Development ,Energy, Gas & Petroleum,Ports and Port led development, etc. They also brought out an interesting fact that 80% of all the diamonds pass through Gujarat! Mrs. Anandiben Patel described big progress being made in water resources, education (especially for women) and infrastructure development.

They also announced that Gujarat will host a summit on January 12 and 13, 2005, where Gujarat’s economic capabilities and market potential will be displayed. They are meeting with industry leaders and entrepreneurs engaged in the industries listed below:

The Georgia Indo-American Chamber of Commerce (GIACC) announced the new slate of officers for 2005: Dr. Ash Thakker (CEO, Global Technology Connection, Inc.) is the new President. Mr. C.N. Madhusudan (CEO, NIIT USA), is the new Chairman and Ms. Terry Simmons, (Partner, Arnall Golden Gregory LLP), is the president elect and the new board of directors were announced. They were; Ani Agnihotri, Krishnan Anand, Asif Jalil, CN Madhusudan, Aravind Swamy.

The Georgia Indo-American Chamber of Commerce (GIACC) represents the Indian industry and trade for Georgia and the Southeastern United States. As a private, non-profit member-based organization, its primary goal is to promote bilateral trade, investment and economic relations between the Southeastern United States (particularly the state of Georgia) and India. GIACC helped facilitate meetings between the delegation from Gujarat and corporations in Georgia.
