The Gujarati Samaj of Atlanta held its ‘Seniors Program’ to celebrate the Valentine’s Day at the Sardar Bhavan Hall on Sunday, February 12. The tables in the hall were colorfully decorated and had diyas and chocolates on top.

Mistress of Ceremonies, Rekhaben Mehta, welcomed all the seniors and wished them a Happy Valentine’s Day, saying, “We love all our seniors,” She introduced talented and versatile singers, Dr.Jaimini Dave and his wife Madhavi Dave, thanking them for so graciously accepting the invitation to attend and entertain the seniors with their songs.

Ashwin Shah and Rekhaben reminded the seniors about the upcoming Program on February 26, and requested volunteers and participants in garba and folk dance programs to attend the program on April 22nd, to be conducted by Rekhaben and Aparna Joshi.

Madhvi in her mellifluous voice began with the song, rahe na rahe hum. Jaimini followed with laheron pe laher. They took turns to entertain the audience with a feast of popular ‘oldie’ hits which resonated well with the seniors, some of whom got on the floor and began dancing, clapping and tapping their feet. Madhvi even sang one of the favorite gujarati song, ‘tari banki re paghaldinu’.

Pankaj Sampat, Vice President,Gujarati Samaj thanked Jaimini and Madhvi Dave for entertaining the seniors and went on to introduce and thank Dr.Bharat Shah, one of the leaders in hospitality industry and a philanthropist for providing transport to seniors without cars and enabling them to attend the programs. He appealed to volunteers to liaise with Varshaben Shah who is coordinating car rides for seniors. He also suggested senior’s participation in the Diwali program along with the Youth members.

It was heartening to see a strong presence of and contribution to entertainment by the youth at the program. Young boys Kirtan, Pratham, Harsh,Param and Neel read amusing short pieces expressing their love, respect and Valentine Day wishes for their respective parents and grandparents.

Young girls also showcased their budding talents in dancing. Prachi danced to teri ye masti, Kajal to kangana re; Isha to chale jaise hawayein; Heli to hey na; Avni to madhuban mein; Aasna and Lona to bole chudiyaan; and Kalina and Jaimi to Chale jaise hawayein.

All the young performers were given gifts as tokens of appreciation, while all the ladies were presented with Valentine Day roses.
